Elias Lab at the American Arachnology Society Conference

This week our grad students Lin, Sophie, and Jacob are attending the American Arachnological Society Conference in Colorado, and Damian actually helped to plan this conference! Lin presented a talk titled “Latent preference for red ornamentation drives interspecific mating in nascent jumping spider species” as well as a poster on “Heterospecific mate choice reveals hidden and variable female preferences in the Habronattus clypeatus group of jumping spiders.” Sophie made a poster on “Mapping Hemolymph Flow Channels in Scorpion Tails: Morphological Insights from High-Resolution X-Ray Imaging.” Last but not least, Jacob was invited to speak at the Genomics symposium discussing “Progress on the genomics of Uroctonus mordax.”

Some of the other highlights include:

  • Members of our lab going field collecting with iNaturalist jumping spider experts.

  • Getting to hang out with the Gillespie lab.

  • Talking to prospective students, and learning from all the amazing talks!
