Lab Tasks
-
Animal Care
The main task that our undergraduates do on a daily basis is animal care. As a part of animal care, undergraduate volunteers will feed, water, rehouse our spiders. On top of this, undergraduates will check for eggsacs and complete various other tasks, depending on the projects that are actively taking place.
-
Cleaning
While it is not the most glorious task, maintaining a clean lab environment ensures that we collect the most accurate data, keep healthy spiders, and have resources that we can use for years to come. You will be expected to clean the containers we house our spiders in daily for about twenty minutes per shift.
-
Assisting with Research
In our lab, undergraduates get the opportunity to assist with research projects after they have been in the lab for a few weeks and gained comfortability with the spiders. As an undergraduate, you may run behavioral trials, analyze videos for data, or even use eyeliner to paint the pedipalps of Habronattus. You may potentially get your own project!

Please note that these programs are only available for UC Berkeley students, furthermore, you are only eligible for SPUR as a student of the College of Natural Resources (CNR). Feel free to click the links above to learn more about URAP and SPUR programs.
